The first step is to determine what style, length, and size jewelry you want. You need some type of vision on what your wedding day jewelry should be like. For instance, do you want small earrings or something long, dangling and noticeable? Do you want a choker style necklace or something that hangs down with three strings?
These details will come from looking at your wedding gown or the other dresses that you are creating jewelry for, so put them on and spend some time deciding what will look best.
The second step is to determine a color scheme. If you are designing for your own wedding gown you likely want pearly white or cream colored beads, though you may decide to throw in a bead or two that corresponds with your wedding party.
If you are designing jewelry for a flower girl or bridesmaids you may want to work with more than one color depending on the color and style of the dress being worked with.
Now that you have a good idea of the style that you want and the colors that will be worked into the jewelry, it’s time to either find a pattern or create your own. You want a clear view of what you are going to design so you know exactly what you are doing. This will reduce your chances of making big mistakes that slow down the jewelry creation process.
If you struggled in step one to come up with a good idea of the style, length, and size of jewelry that you want, then finding a pattern to work with or at least modify is a good idea. If you already have a clear image of where you want to go with your jewelry, then get graph paper or a sketch book and put it on paper.
A pattern is anything that shows you exactly what you are creating and the order in which different beads should be strung. This could be a colored in sketch or dots on graphing paper. Whatever works best for you!
The final step is to gather all the supplies that will be needed to complete the project. Of course you will need plenty of beads so purchase more than you think you will need just in case. You will also need strong string or wire as well as scissors and pliers to cut them. There are also a wide variety of additional supplies that may be needed depending on the exact type of jewelry you are making.
Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to create your jewelry. Leave yourself time to make mistakes and fix them. You will also want to try the finished jewelry on with your gown or the other dresses to ensure they are just perfect. If you decide to make a change or switch a color you should have time to do so.
